Guatemala is home to some of the most spectacular volcanic landscapes in the world, including Volcán de Pacaya and Volcán de Fuego. Hiking these volcanoes are challenging, but are worth the breathtaking views and experience.
In 2022, despite many people telling me not to travel solo to Guatemala due to safety concerns, I packed my bags and went on an a solo adventure of a lifetime. Prior to my trip, I did not know much about the country, and what I saw in the media was mostly negative. Nevertheless, I remained hopeful.
Getting to hike an active volcano in Guatemala is an exhilarating, unforgettable, and a chance to make memories that will last a lifetime. The hike to the foot of the volcano is challenging, but the rewards are well worth it. There is no better way to experience the power and beauty of nature. Imagine standing on the edge of an active volcano, surrounded by steaming vents and cascading lava. The view from the top is breathtaking, with panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside. I would love for everyone, even solo female travelers like myself to witness the raw power of nature and feel a sense of accomplishment after reaching the summit. To complete the trip, I recommend a rich cultural experience by visiting one of the vibrant Mayan towns, colorful markets, indulge in local wine tasting, and try delicious local cuisine.
